Forwards Jordan Schroeder (2G), Nathan Longpre, and Tim Miller and defenseman Mark Matheson all scored for Chicago, while center Steve Reinprecht dished out two assists in his team debut.

“We demonstrated our skill tonight,” said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. “I have been seeing a lot of progress from our players and it has come through the work we have been doing the past few weeks.”

Peoria (9-10-1-1) jumped on the scoreboard 19 seconds into the game when center T.J. Hensick held the puck behind the Wolves net and fed it in the slot to right wing Jay Barriball, who snapped a shot over the glove of Chicago netminder Eddie Lack.

Chicago (9-6-0-2) answered 39 seconds later when defenseman Kevin Connauton’s shot from the point was knocked down by a Peoria defenseman and the puck landed at the skates of Longpre, who slipped home the rebound past Jake Allen.

The Wolves grabbed a 2-1 lead while on the power play at 18:09 of the opening frame. Reinprecht fed a pass from the point to Matheson in the slot who redirected the pass past Allen.

Chicago inched ahead 3-1 when Miller stripped a Rivermen defenseman at the side of the net and tucked the puck between Allen’s pads and the post at 7:12 of the third period.

The Rivermen cut the Wolves lead to 3-2 at 9:42 of the final frame. Defenseman David Shields fired a shot from the point that missed the net, but the puck ricocheted off the back boards to center Phil McRae and he flicked the loose puck past a diving Lack.

Lack (3-4-2) posted 21 saves.

Chicago regained its two-goal lead at 12:58 when Schroeder’s shot from the circle was stopped by Allen, but the rebound bounced back to him and he slipped his second attempt through Allen’s five-hole.

Allen (1-5-1) thwarted 30 of 34 shots.

The Rivermen closed to within 4-3 at 15:45 of the third period with Barriball’s second marker of the night, but Schroeder’s empty-net tally at 19:16 sealed the win for the Wolves.
