Wolves Open Preseason with 4-2 Win Over Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves fell behind 2-0 after 20 minutes but rattled off four consecutive goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Rockford IceHogs at Carlson Ice Arena.

Forwards Dean Strong, Patrick Asselin and Nathan Longpre and defenseman Vincent LoVerde all scored for Chicago.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the second period, the Wolves got on the scoreboard just 1:13 into the frame. Strong redirected a shot in front of the net and past IceHogs goaltender Carter Hutton.

Chicago (1-0-0-0) tied the game at two when center Alex Friesen held the puck behind the Rockford net and fed LoVerde in the slot who hammered it home past Hutton at 9:24.

Hutton stopped 20 of 22 shots in 29:43 of action before giving way to Adam Russo (0-1-0), who kicked of 11 of 13 shots in 29:28.

The Wolves took their first lead of the night, 3-2, at 11:28. Forward Michael Davies sent an across ice pass through the slot to a streaking Asselin, who tapped the puck over the line and past Russo.

Longpre closed out the scoring for Chicago at 7:07 of the third period when he beat Russo, stick-side.

Rockford (0-1-0-0) opened scoring with a pair of goals 1:44 apart in the first period. Right wing Harrison Reed scored past Wolves netminder Charlie Effinger at 10:36, while left wing Brandon Svendsen potted his goal at 12:04.

Effinger turned aside 17 of 19 shots in 29:43 of action. Rob Nolan (1-0-0) stopped all 13 shots he faced in 30:17 of relief duty in picking up the win.

The Wolves continue their preseason slate on Friday when they travel to Peoria for a matchup against the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena at 7 p.m.
