Wolves Battle For 5-3 Win Over Bulldogs

Center Andre Deveaux
HAMILTON, Ontario---The Chicago Wolves and Hamilton Bulldogs traded goals through two periods before the Wolves used two third period markers to lift them to a 5-3 win at Copps Coliseum Tuesday night.

Forwards Spencer Machacek, Angelo Esposito and Michael Davies and defensemen Paul Postma and Mike Siklenka potted goals for Chicago.

Postma cracked a 3-3 deadlock 9:29 into the last frame with a power-play marker when he blasted a shot past Bulldogs netminder Robert Mayer, stick side.

Siklenka one timed a power-play shot from the top of the left faceoff circle 12:10 into the final frame to seal the 5-3 win for the Wolves.

Chicago (18-15-2-1) opened scoring when Machacek slid the puck straight into the net from the crease past Hamilton goaltender Curtis Sanford, 1:16 into the first period.

Sanford posted two saves on three shots before giving way to Mayer at 1:16 of the opening frame.

Hamilton (19-10-1-4) tied the game 1-1, 9:39 into the first frame with a power-play marker from center Dustin Boyd. Boyd grabbed the puck in the paint and flicked it over Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino.

The Wolves regained the lead, 2-1, when Esposito redirected defenseman Boris Valabik’s shot in the slot past Mayer 12:46 into the opening frame.

The Bulldogs responded nearly two minutes after with another power-play strike from the slot from Boyd to tie the game again, 2-2.

Davies popped the puck in the empty side of the net and past Meyer from the doorstep to bring the score to 3-2 on the power play 3:21 into the middle frame.

Mayer (6-6-2) posted 21 saves in 56:17 minutes of play.

Hamilton evened out the score 3-3, 9:13 into the second period when Boyd roofed a shot from the slot over Mannino.

Mannino (12-7-1) thwarted 23 shots in the win.
