Read To Succeed

One of the Chicago Wolves most successful community endeavors is the READ TO SUCCEED program, presented by Vista Health System and Butternut Bread, which has involved more than 500,000 children and 105 libraries in the Chicago area. The goal of this program is for kids to spend more time in libraries so they see the valuable resources they have to offer, and understand the benefits of reading as a recreational tool.

Through this program, the Wolves provide incentives for kids who reach their reading goals. In addition, Wolves players visit the libraries throughout the season. The players speak about the important role that education plays in their lives as professional athletes.

Reading Facts

Out-of-school reading habits of students have shown that even 15 minutes a day of independent reading can expose students to more than a million words of text in a year.
Thirty-seven percent of American fourth-graders read below the “Basic” level on the National Assessment of Educational Progress reading test.
